This page refers to a railtour which has now taken place. All information is left here for interest only!

Itinerary

Our popular pre-Christmas day excursion this year runs from Hastings via Battle, Etchingham, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Orpington, Bromley South and Clapham Junction.

Our destination is The historic city of Salisbury, whose Cathedral is the second-tallest in Europe with the tip of its spire 404 feet above the ground. There are many other interesting parts of the city which will be easy to explore in the time available.

For those who wish to spend their time Christmas shopping in fresh surroundings, there is a large open market in the centre of the city, with the shopping centre nearby. As we expect to spend about four hours in Salisbury, there will be plenty of time to search for presents, or to pick up those unexpected bargains!

We are particularly proud of the party atmosphere on our excursions at this time of the year, and this will be complemented by Christmas decorations on the train, with mince pie and wine for all our passengers on the way home.

These are the final timings, as received from EWS and Railtrack. Some of these are about half an hour earlier than the provisional times previously published, but these do allow for more time to spend in Salisbury. Latest information: 1 December 2001

The train is now basically full. There is one Club Class seat remaining vacant in motor coach Tunbridge Wells. One standard seat is available in each of motor coach Hastings and the CEP trailer. We would be prepared to sell tickets for only a further 3 seats in the Buffet Car. […]
